They work fine. as long as a) the modem driver does not become corrupt No reason why the modem driver has any more chance of 'becoming corrupt' than the rest of whats used Hell of a lot easier and safer for the average user to install the latest drivers for a software modem than to flash their external modem.

Windows 98 Second Edition doesn't recognize the driver install info on the CD-ROM that came with the cable modem. No they are not. But if you look, it doesn't say that enhanced modem driver is for NT4.0. It's under the "notebook driver" section at the last. You're right, on the main page it just lists the Enhanced Modem Driver under "Notebook Drivers." If you click on the driver, the next page clearly states Windows NT 4.0
